Kiara Advani (born Alia Advani; 31 July 1991) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi and Telugu films. She was born in Bombay, Maharashtra. Her father, Jagdeep Advani, is a Sindhi Hindu businessman, and her mother, Genevieve Jaffrey, is a teacher with mixed ancestry of Lucknow, Scottish, Irish, Portuguese, and Spanish roots. She has a younger brother, Mishaal, who is a musician.
Kiara studied at Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Jai Hind College. Before entering films, she even took up teaching for a brief period.
Her birth name was Alia Advani, but she adopted the name “Kiara” before her film debut, inspired by Priyanka Chopra’s character in Anjaana Anjaani. The change was also suggested to avoid confusion with actress Alia Bhatt.
